Drainage is perfect if you follow instructions.
After reading all the reviews, I was a little concerned that the sprouter might not drain satisfactorily. However, I followed a particularly long, helpful review explaining that the red drainage pieces must be placed opposite each other on successive levels. Having done this and soaked my radish seeds overnight, I placed a spoonful on each level. I added water to the top layer and watched, fascinated, as the water drained down through the levels. I did not put the sprouter in the dark during the day but It was in rather murky light for the first few days. Not much chance of sunshine round here. However, the seeds, undaunted by the weather, started to germinate on day 2 of the process and I harvested the little sprout plants on day 6 when they were mostly about 2 or 3cm in length. I had, by the way, moved them nearer the window on day 5 so they had some chance of greening up before I harvested them. I felt like a ghoul when I bit their heads off and consumed them but they had a happy (short) life and fulfilled their destiny. They were light green when i transferred them to a plastic box and tasted, unsurprisingly you might say, just like .... radishes. This week (about 5 days later) I am still enjoying them and will probably finish them today. I put some as a garnish on an omelette and the rest have been mainly eaten as a garnish on homemade rye bread sandwiches with cheese or hummus.I bought a hexagonal terracotta sprouter a short time after this one and it has peas in it at the moment, also doing well. I have probably chosen two of the easiest crops to start but it gives you confidence if your first efforts succeed. Some reviewers have complained of mould on the plants but I have not had that problem (yet). I keep a magnifying glass by the sprouters and confirmed that the white hairs on the radishes from about day 3 or 4 were, indeed, root hairs rather than mould, and a perfectly natural stage of growth. I bought some dehydrator mesh to protect against small seeds getting stuck but I've not had that problem either (yet).

Great product... but read the instructions!!
At first I thought I'd bought the wrong thing, then after reading the instructions (the English translation is a little hard to follow) the penny dropped and this item is designed by a genius. For all those who said the system doesn't work, drain or get blocked.... the important thing is to fix in place the filter plugs on the upper side drain flue on each tray. Align the trays with the filters 180 degrees from the one above and once all trays are stacked put half a litre of luke warm water into the top tray so the water covers the filter completely. The water than drains nicely and excess water is kept in the lower tray. Do this twice a day. I've used this with rocket seeds which are tiny and they don't get stuck in the pipes! Sorry if others have had bad experiences, but so far I'm very impressed. Also a BIG plus point, it's not made in China.

Does not drain - even when properly set up
Looks like a sprouter but thats where similarly ends. Doesn't deserve one star. Drain is 10mm above base so seeds sit in water. Worst purchase in a long time, out of pocket for soggy seeds and transport. Avoid.

Good size germinator with clear sides and top
A good germinator, easy to use. Only draw back was the 'capilliary caps' were missing. Fortunately I had bought some for an older germinator

Broccoli sprouts: The easy way
So following some health research, I decided to look at growing my own broccoli sprouts. (Check out Dr Rhonda Patrick)Anyway, at the top of the rabbit hole, you are presented with the Mason Jar method to grow year, so I bought some of the jars.I also saw this layered tray which seemed more convenient. It is.I can now layer the seeds on consecutive trays with a day or so in between. This means that when one batch is ready to remove, you've got more on the way.The only intervention is to get a 500ml jug, are pour water onto the top layer morning and night. Remove the water which is decanted at the bottom layer. And it'll do it's thing. One useful tip: keep the outer sleeve packaging. You can then use this to block out the light on the first few days(approx 4-5). This pushes the vertical growth. Then when tall enough, let it bask in natural light and you'll see the leaves go from anaemic yellow to vibrant green as if by magic.Really simple. In daily use. Enough yield for 2 people to have the required amount. You can also increase bioavailability by eating with mustard so basically I add to salads and make dressings with mustard.

Nice
Nice sprouter. Few design errors.. water doesn't drain completely. Leaving seeds resting in water. Grove channels could be maid taller to ease that. Only one drain hole per tray .. can easily get blocked. Cure next one to have two also the holes have walls with groves in to allow drainage this needs to be bigger to allow more water to drain.
