I used this to replace a faulty fire/carbon monoxide alarm on the second (top) floor of my house. Since there are no combustion sources on this floor, I saw no reason to pay extra for a CO alarm.

Easy installation
Despite what some other reviewers have written, this installation is easy, and it works with other alarms, specifically with Firex model FADC. I disconnected the old wiring harness from house wiring by removing three twist-on wire connectors, connected the new wiring harness to the house wiring via the same three twist-on connectors. I removed the old mounting plate by loosening two screws and replaced it with the new one by tightening the same two screws. I removed the battery-protection strip, plugged the harness into the detector, fitted the detector into the base with 1/4 turn, and pressed the test button. It works!.

They also detect dust!
Model #20SAR manufactured 7/24 - I've had these for about 2 weeks and already had a false alarm where the detector in my daughter's room went off in the middle of the night. They are interconnected, so all of them went off. Everyone jumps out of bed and thinks there is a fire in the house. No smoke, no fire, but the unit in her room wouldn't stop going off and blinking red. I took it down, cleaned it, blew compressed air in it and replaced the batteries, but it's still going off. I called Kidde and they said these units have a laser in them and dust particles can trip the laser and cause them to go off. Their advice is to not mount them 3ft or closer to ceiling fans. So I have to have an electrician come and move all the boxes in the rooms with ceiling fans?? No thanks. So, if you want a smoke detector that also detects dust and want to deal with false alarms in the middle of the night, then these might be for you! I'll be returning all 6 of these and the stupid adapters that were sold separately.
