Excellent Alternative
We purchased this keyboard for a Surface Pro 3. The issue with the Surface Pro's type cover not working has been widely documented. Thus, we were left with no options but to purchase this unit. Although longevity remains to be seen since we've only had it for a week, function, connectivity and overall feel is excellent. Battery life is also great; we gave it a full charge after unboxing and it had to be recharged after 5 days of use. Typically 4 to 5 hours per day of non-stop work. A quick tip, instead of pushing the power button for 3 seconds to turn off, just hold the "alt" key and press the space bar to put it to sleep. It conserves battery even if you have the tablet on but don't need to use the keyboard. Repeat the same process to turn it back on... ours connect immediately.

Failed to switch on after 1 year
The keyboard worked ok initially, but after about 1 year it suddenly stopped working. Pressing the on button for a long time switches the keyboard back on, but only for a short time.Charging didn't fix the issue.Another downside is the extremely sensitive trackpad. When the trackpad is enabled typing becomes impossible, as the smallest touch moves the mouse. Luckily the trackpad can be disabled with a keyboard shortcut.

This product saved me hundreds of dollars!
This keyboard is a lifesaver! A friend of mine gave me his old Surface Pro 4 b/c he upgraded to the latest model. The catch was that the keyboard wouldn’t connect and Microsoft said that it was a lost cause. Then I saw this product and after some research decided that it would be the perfect fix! The directions are easy to follow and setup was a breeze. The keyboard works great and has a long battery life.

Update on review: worked fine until it didn't
Update: After contacting the seller through Amazon, the keyboard was quickly and easily replaced. The replacement keyboard included a notice that the battery should not be completely drained. Following this directive has solved the problem. I have been using the keyboard for several months now and it works well. It stays connected through Bluetooth, maps well to Windows 11, and I like the feel of the keys. The mouse pad is fine - sometimes a little sensitive, but has not been a problem for me. I am pleased with the keyboard and appreciate the vendor's response. (Prior review: This keyboard worked just fine for about 5 weeks. Then the power button stopped working and it can't be turned on. The return window has closed (4 weeks to return) and the Warranty Card does not provide information on where to send or how to make a warranty claim for the broken product.)

Works, but missing functionality and feels cheap
(3.5 stars, really) Coming from the official Microsoft Alcantara Type cover, this one feels noticeably cheaper in a few ways: 1) the magnetic seal to the Surface is weak and wobbly; 2) the keys feel 'looser' and have some clatter to their feedback; and 3) the fabric-esque finish on the rest of the product feels far tackier. Also, this keyboard is MUCH thicker, maybe twice as thick, as the official Type cover. Some things the product description should have been clearer about: Bluetooth pairing is not an alternative to the conventional Surface port connectivity; this keyboard ONLY works via Bluetooth, and therefore both needs regular charging to function at all (huge functionality hit vs. official covers), and will be useless if you have to put your Surface on airplane mode. Oh, and the keys are not back-lit at all. Some other cheap-knockoff-product weirdness: The Windows key just says "Win" rather than the official Windows logo, and I don't know for sure but have a suspicion this has something to do with the product not passing or going through any official licensing process with MS; and the keyboard doesn't report its battery charge level to Windows via Bluetooth like modern peripherals should. That said, it's a fair bit cheaper than the official products - you get what you pay for - and offers a substantial feature the official cover doesn't in its Bluetooth pairing. Being able to pop the keyboard off and still use it seems like a handy addition. The feel of the build quality has me worried it won't last that long, but if it holds up for two years or so, it'll be decent value for money.

Update: You get what you pay for.
After leaving this review I was contacted by the seller about the issues with the type pad. They were very understanding of my frustration and concerns. They got me taken care of in a timely manner, and I do commend them for that.I received this type pad for my Surface Pro 4 on October 4. The only reason I needed to replace the original type pad was because the fabric started to separate after years and years of use; there were no other issues with the original touchpad.Pros: the type pad is very responsive, as well as the mousepad. It performed even better than the original keyboard from my surface.Cons: per other reviews on this product, the type pad WILL QUIT OPERATING after about a month of use. Specifically this one quit 44 days after receiving it. While it was connected to my computer the day it was received, use was light, and I baby all tech products. After each use I would turn it off along with the computer. It should also be noted that there seems to be no way to contact the seller, and Amazon’s bot service left me so aggravated that I did not opt to speak to a human representative.

did not last long
Started off very good, keyboard paired well, battery life was very stable, battery charged quickly and keys were comfortably tactile.Bought unit in Sept 2020 and it started to give problems June 2021. My daily use is 4-6 hours per day, home use.The 'Backspace key' worked sporadically and you could get different responses when used..you could get a comma or and 'i' ....repetitively/ reoccurring even when key not engaged.Space bar and Enter may not work at times.Tried removing and reconnecting unit but no change...tried resetting the unit, no difference.not worth the price given it lasted only 10 months.
