I wouldn't recommend any less quality than this
You can get a cheaper mic stand, but I was impressed with this one, 12" standard. I don't know about the quick release option, but after reading the reviews the standard is fine with me. I've used a lot of mic stands in my day but the 12" seems heftier and more stable than the ones I've bought from music stores. It does take up a larger footprint, so it all depends on what you want to use it for. And an FYI, if you REALLY want some weight stability but don't care about appearance (eg studio work), you can always slip a free weight plate over it (or any stand). Ankle weights work, too. But for me, it's fine as is. Love the rubber baby buggy bumper on the bottom to protect the floor.

Solid base for a custom iPad Pro stand.
Used as base for boom arm with iPad Pro 12.9" mount at its end. The combination positions the iPad perfectly -- and quite sturdily -- for treadmill use. I added a 3-pound counterweight (cheaper on eBay) for the telescoping boom arm and a quick-release ball head to attach the iPad mount. Altogether, the price came in around $130 -- and gave me a respectably solid stand for an expensive electronic device easily mounted/dismounted/adjusted when I want to use the treadmill and have something to take my mind off a deadening (for me, anyway) daily treadmill hour.Other items here:http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B019M1C2AI/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1http://www.amazon.com/dp/B075QRSZLW/ref=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_1http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00UMDY7YA/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1http://www.amazon.com/On-Stage-Stands-CW3-Counterweight/dp/B0010HHAXC/ref=sr_1_1?s=musical-instruments&ie=UTF8&qid=1522688758&sr=1-1&keywords=3+pound+counterweighthttp://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0144W3I26/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

3/8" adapter badly made, won't fit any 5/8" holders
The stand works OK, but the 3/8" to 5/8" adapter is so poorly threaded that I can't attach any of my 5/8" mic holders to it. The locking ring is so loose on the threads it keeps wanting to go diagonal, as the photo shows. It seems a waste to ship the whole mic stand back, weighted base and all, just for this small but essential part. If the seller is reading this, I'd appreciate getting a replacement that works, or a refund of $5 so I can buy an adapter that is properly threaded. A week of no response from seller here, so I contacted the manufacturer at gator frameworks.com and submitted an RMA request. I got an email response the next day saying they would ship out a replacement part, to arrive in a week or two. To be continued...

Great for taller singers!
I'm 6'2, so I needed a mic stand that would go a little further than standard. This mic stand allows plenty of adjustment, the base is wider than the cheaper stands, and there's a sufficient weight to it that it FEELS quality. I use this nearly every day with my band, and the only gripe I have about it is that if you put any significant weight on the top of it, it will go down a little. That's more my own personal issue that I need to correct, and not so much an issue with the stand. Absolutely invest. Do NOT buy a $20 mic stand, you'll regret it.

Super Sturdy - Functions exactly as it should
I ordered this about six months ago. I use it sometimes as a microphone stand, and sometimes as a stand for my iPad on gigs. It is extremely sturdy, and takes up less space on stage than other "tripod-style" stands. It isn't as compact as I might like (transportation-wise), but I knew that going in. All in all, a great mic stand for the money.

Warped Base
The stand mechanism seems sturdy and hopefully it'll last a good while. You never know with squeeze grips, only time will tell. I rated it down because the base is warped. It won't sit flat on the ground and wobbles. If I can't use the stand itself with the existing base I have for the stand I'm replacing then I'll have to return it.
