When I think of studies I think of pieces that are written just to make you practice hard bits that don't sound like anything particular. These are very musical, many of them pretty enough to use for other people to listen to. Don't be put off by the title. I am a serious amateur adult. I am a certified adult and a passionate amateur flute player. This book seems to be at the level of the rubank advanced student method probably the third or fourth book of the series and would make a good companion to that particularly for sight reading experience. I actually bought this for a high school student I am coaching to try to convince her to try out for the all state band (the audition pieces are in it) but I will get one for myself also.

This has plenty of good material for an advanced flautist without too much repeat material found in other common advanced study books. It's great for sight reading if you've played everything else but still want that practice. There are pieces that are melodic enough to keep you having fun and pieces who's melodies are unexpected enough to give you a challenge.

Great study guide for my 12 old

I have difficulty with what I consider complex keys so this is the book for me. Basic, moderate and killer levels of sharps and flats in melodic exercises with common and uncommon times. There is a great deal to learn in this little book.

Outstanding etudes for high school flutist and beyond. Has an etude that covers just about every musical flutist problem you can think of, and then works you if you practice it repetitively. Good book, IF you do the work involved to master its pages. Not for Jr. High - too involved.

This is an awesome book for those who have progressed beyond the basic Rubank Studies books. I was looking for something a little more challenging and my teacher recommended this. It has scales, scales in thirds, arpeggios, and many etudes by different composers. Am looking forward to making full use of this tool!

My daughter has been playing flute for almost 5 years now and her instructor required her to get this book as part of her studies. The exercises in the book are for advancing students who wish to continue to improve their technique.
