So Far So Good
I haven’t read the book yet, but I need it for a current class. I’ve skimmed through the table of contents and this book covers so many situations, which is great! It was packaged well, and it’s affordable. If I can update my review when I finish it, I’ll have more to say then. Looking forward to reading it.

Wow.
I'm not going to spoil much, but as a child development specialist who wants to go into child life, this book is an eye opener! It addresses the many things that one can encounter when working with children and families who are going through such traumatic times in their lives. Great read!

Good book, good advice
I purchased this book when I found out my mom had cancer. My mom helps watch my daughter while I work so they are very close. This book was very insightful and helped me break the news to my daughter. Without this book we would have lied to her a bit, especially at first, thinking it’s best but I now understand that is the worst thing I could do. Later she wouldn’t believe me, if I had lied at all. Also, I didn’t think about the fact that kids hear things and then their imagination can kick in and they can think some pretty insane things. Just great advice. Things like that made this book so valuable to me

Excellent guide book
As a child life specialist covering adult ICU's, I have used and recommended this book both personally and professionally. I keep several copies at my house and office to give to parents navigating a new serious illness. It is an unparalleled resource. Kathleen McCue is an expert among experts in this subject area, and this book serves as an easy read guide for parents and caregivers of children experiencig a parents serious illness. You will not regret this purchase.

I bought this book after being diagnosed with breast cancer. I'm a child psychologist, so I already had some ideas about how to handle the discussions with my 6-year-old. But this helped me to identify issues that I had not foreseen and to fill in the gaps of my knowledge. I highly recommend it to anyone who needs to tell a child about a loved one's serious illness.

excellent resource for dealing with a difficult situation
I purchased this book as the relative of a single parent in treatment for stage iV stomach cancer. It was hugely helpful in giving me advice on how to help my cousin's young daughter cope with her feelings on her mom's dire diagnosis.
