these sponge filters are some of the best I’ve owned. they are a good size, not tiny but not so large they’re hard to place in the tank. it can easily be taken apart and modified to fit an airstone inside. the sponge itself is a perfect medium-course density (less fine than others I’ve owned but this is good because they clog less frequently and require less cleaning). the best part is, you get 3 of them for the price you’d pay for 1 of this quality elsewhere. 5 stars!

I bought this product for my baby angelfish fry that I am currently taking care of. It has not killed my fry and produces good sized bubbles for a 10 gallon tank. I do recommend if you’re using it for the reason I bought it or if you just want to use a sponge filter in general for a smaller tank. The sponge itself is a pretty decent size so be aware of that!

This nice little sponge filter is really handy if you have a smaller aquarium, and with adjustments it can be really useful on a large tank too. The lift tube it comes with is short, and only 1/2" in diameter, but the end-cap it attaches to is also designed to fit a 1" lift tube. My advice is to use a longer 1" tube that extends as close to the surface of the aquarium as possible to increase the amount of water that gets pulled through the sponge (this will occur due to the increased suction a longer lift tube creates).You're very best bet though, is to attach this to the intake tube of a Hang on the Back filter (HOB). This baby works great as a pre-filter, and enhances biological filteration dramatically when used in this way. Plus it keeps slower moving fish and fry safe, while reducing the amount of filter cleanings you need to perform. when used this way, it's lower profile and dark color (in comparison to other sponge filters)also means it can "disappear" into a larger well decorated tank. I really have nothing but good things to say about the versitility of this filter!

Still going strong after 2 years

I purchased this to see if i could find a cost effective way to not make my own sponge filters. Visually, it looks better than my DIY sponge filter, and the Sponge is cheaper but the weight at the bottom doesn't keep it from floating, you still have to use rocks or substrate to hold it down which is a huge downer for me. It comes apart, which is nice because you can switch out just the sponge if you want to change your filter over time. It's good for fry, and depending on how strong of a air pump you attach you can change how bit the flow rate of the bubbles coming from it. It's a decent size for the price. Easy to do your regimen of cleaning up and doing water changes, you can just remove the sponge and squeeze it into some tank water and reattach it and you are good to go. I will say it's good fro the price though, I just prefer to change the sponge to what I prefer. Go ahead and give it a shot.

A sponge filter is so simple, the water it draws provides a home for beneficial bacteria, catches nearly all particles of debris, is so simple to maintain, and inexpensive. Some of my tanks used only them, or, in combination with a Hob filter. Every few months just squeeze in old tank water.

Nice product, it is at a good price and does it's job. I use it in my fish breeding tanks to avoid getting fry caught in it, and it works, and provides excellent biological filtration, Nice product at a good price.

Filters are large/good size, I have bought in the past and have good suction and like most sponge filters are very easy to clean, however on this last order when I opened the undamaged box one base was broken. Will be exchanging for another set I guess!

Great sponge filters. You can put an air stone inside and they work great!
