Orange Pi 5 Pro 8GB LPDDR5 Rockchip RK3588S 8-Core 64-Bit Single Board Computer with eMMC Socket, WiFi 5/Bluetooth 5.0, Development Board Run Orange Pi/Ubuntu/Debian/Android 12 OS (5 Pro 8GB)

I just got my orange pi yesterday, but I have been busy playing with it. So far, it is great, but I did find the instructions a little confusing. But thankfully there is youtube which helped me get ubuntu linux installed, and I was off to the races. It is a good board if you want to learn linux, control devices from the GPIO pins, make a NAS server, small time mining, or whatever else you can think of. I also own a raspberry pi 5, and this board is a lot faster than the raspberry, but what can you expect with 4 more cores. It also runs more efficiently than my raspberry pi, idles at 3.4 watts, but your results may vary.Just remember youtube is your friend when it comes to these little sbc's, and download the 600+ page manual from the website. Get the manual before you buy to help you decide if it is for you.

It's unfortunate, because hardware-wise it has a lot going for it. Unfortuantely the support pages and manual leave a lot to wish for. Especially when it comes to interfacing with their NPU. There are a lot of undocumented steps and conversions that have to take place, not all of them are explained and you don't always know how to calibrate them. This has a lot to do with the support from RockChip, which is atrocious. However, that's the chip in this device, if the RK3588S documentation is trash, then either create a good set of your own, or perhaps use a different chip.

The Orange PI are not really worth it. The unit itself looks impressive, however the oragepi website is almost never up (or accessible) and the few open source os builds that are meant for the pi are hard to find and have stability issues. All in all, unless you LOVE to tinker and are ok building our own distro for the orange pi, not sure its worth it.
