Great Bike for Young Kids: Second One I've Bought
This is the second KinderBike Mini that I've purchased for my children. My daughter will be turning two soon, and this will be her birthday present. I'd planned to sand and paint my son's old, blue one for her (she's asked for a yellow bike), but when I added up the cost of primer, paint, and hours in the garage, I figured I'd rather just get her a brand new one for $89.As far as I can tell, it's the same design as the one I bought my son in 2012. My favorite thing about these bikes is that they have real, inflatable rubber tires that grip well on wet cement (we live in Portland). But they're also lightweight and easy for a young child to manage. My son was 22 months old when I put him on his KinderBike Mini, and by the time he was three, he was trying tricks: rolling as far as he could with his feet up, and hopping curbs. I really think these are wonderful first bikes for small children. My son was ready for a pedal bike without training wheels at the age of three, and I attribute that to starting him on the KinderBike Mini.As far as this one goes, again, it appears to have the same, quality build as before. The yellow looks a lot less orange than in the photo. For me, that's a good thing, because it's closer to the shade of my parents' old, yellow Schwinns. It comes mostly assembled (much more so than it did in 2012). All you need is a few crescent and hex wrenches to tighten things up and it's ready to roll. That said, I kind of wish they'd left the brake assembly off, and in a separate box (as they do with the reflector, and did with the brake on the 2012 model). Really young children's fingers aren't strong enough to pull the brake, so I hear it's only something that adds frustration, pinches, and bruises before around three. But I think I'll see if it gets in my daughter's way before removing it.The only reason I didn't give this 5 stars is because of some minor complaints that I think are more related to packaging than design:1. There's a small chip in the paint on the main tube. Of course, this isn't worth sending back, because kids drop their bikes. A lot. It's just that you want it to be flawless and shiny when they first see it.2. There's a slight bend in the part of the fork where you bolt on the wheel (not the geometry of the fork itself). So the wheel didn't slide in as easily as it should. But once this is all bolted on it should straighten out over time. And it's not like these are quick release. You only need to remove the front wheel occasionally, say when space in the trunk is right.Again, despite my very specific complaints that are most likely a result of packaging, these are great bikes for young children. I can't wait to see what my daughter does with it.- a bike nerd dad.

No quality control
At first me and my child were excited. My child was riding it and I noticed it kept pulling or dipping to the left. With the seat off I was able to see the rear wheel was not aligned with the frame. Upon further inspection I realized the rear drop outs where not square to each other or the frame. One of the drop outs is longer by almost an inch. Very poor fabrication/manufacturing. The V brake post mounts where also installed randomly along the rear drop outs. So no way this bike would have ever tracked straight, nor would my child have learned to blalance as the crooked rear end was always wanting to pull itself over to the left. The brake post were so missed aligned the brakes would have never worked.

I am a biker myself and the quality of this bike for its price is fantastic. The attention to design is all there
My son received this for his 2nd birthday. He is a very small child and can hardly reach the ground at the seats lowest setting (without shoes). Still, he LOVES this bike. He always wants to ride it. I am a biker myself and the quality of this bike for its price is fantastic. The attention to design is all there. This is a great bike to teach young kids to balance well. The only complaint I can find (and really, it's just the way life works), is that the wheels are so small, it can be harder to get a pump with a larger nozzle attached to the stem however I was able to bend it enough to get the job done with no damage at all.Thinking about this for your young one? Pull the trigger, you wont be dissapointed... .well once you figure out how to assemble it properly.

Good design, terrible assembly quality
Bought this for a two year old, researched it thoroughly to get a good one. Design is nice, but the Chinese assembly work is terrible. I had to adjust every nut, component, adjustment... Everything. Not a single individual part was correctly attached to any other part. Some nuts were falling off loose, others were waaaay overtightened. If you aren't comfortable taking this thing totally apart and rebuilding it to start with, buy it at a bike shop. Then after a small two year old spent a few hours total pushing it around (without even sitting on it) the front tire has a long gash in it. It's just a defective tire, but now he can't ride it and I have to contact the company for a warranty part.Really had higher hopes for this product.

I bought this for my 2 year old's birthday and ...
I bought this for my 2 year old's birthday and he loves it. Within 2 weeks he is able to steer and balance somewhat. It is not a expensive choice so the complains below is not a fair one but it's just fyi.The bell broke off on the very first fall, front reflector broke off within a week as my son was turning the handle around too much. Finally, I ended up removing all the brake mechanism. It posed a slight danger when he falls on top of the bike.I hope this helps making your choice.
