Heavy Duty Screw in Steel Ground Spike for Rotary Washing Line or Parasol

Thanks to the kids new trampoline getting built up, its location had to be moved from the lawn to a raised gravel bed area as it was killing the lawn, and the raised gravel bed was home to the rotary airer. It was really old any way and we are in the process of remodeling the garden so it was time for it to go. In the meantime I needed a temporary solution for a new 40m rotary airer I purchased a while back which was sitting in the garage.Like I said, the garden is being remodelled to make it more child friendly and more of a pleasant place to relax when the sun decides to make its one time annual appearance and needed a temporary solution for a new rotary airer and this seemed to fit the bill. It was cheaper than others in B&Q etc, delivery was quick but it was much bigger than expected. Its not the most attractive thing to look at and it didn't come with instructions but to be fair its not complicated as it simply screws into the ground !!When screwed into its spot there are 3 screws with clips for securing your rotary airer or parasol and when tightened it is very solid and secure and if you need to move it to another location, simply loosen the screws and unscrew the ground spike. Simple and very quick to do.Really pleased with this and this might become a permanent tempory solution ! Time will tell how it holds up to the weather but its cheap enough should it need to be replaced a few years down the line

I read some pretty negative reviews of this product so wasn't 100% sold, however taking the 28 days return policy that was mentioned with a pinch of salt (its 30 days in the Consumer Rights Act and you have a a right to ask the seller for a repair or replacement up to 6 months if the item develops a fault), I opted to give it a go. The item is obviously not made in the UK and China would be my guess, there is no set up guide and to say the labelling is minimal is an understatement. Likewise the box and general packaging is very 'garden centre' generic.However first impressions of the spike were pretty good, its a heavy duty hollow metal screw! However for the ground it was going into it would need to be heavy duty, we have a pebbled section of the garden than is built over a rubble dump, so a few cms below the pebbles could be anything and I wasn't sure if the screw would cope, in which case it would have to go into the grass.However with the metal handle that comes with it, the screw cut through the ground like a hot knife through butter. It was actually impressive and quite good fun. Because I didn't expect it to work I didn't really bother with levelling the screw off so it went in at an angle, so I just did it again in a different spot and again it did it with ease. Be aware that the whole is quite big and will no doubt fill up with stones/crud over time if you are taking the pole in and out.So the downsides, well I wasn't impressed with the Sellers Reply of Marv's customers review on the 21st April 2016, and actually this did make me think twice. Given that this product is made to screw into the ground and stay there for years any company with good customer service (once the item had been shown to have failed) would just send a replacement. However I think this item is now fulfilled by Amazon who has excellent customer service, so I didn't let that bother me.Anyway this isnt the products issue; so a simple 'how to/advice' section on the side of the box would not go amiss. But in summary I think the ground spike is worth the money, it did exactly what I wanted, even in the hardest of ground, it was easy to get in, easy to take out and was rock solid once in place.

By all appearances this is a strong product, and should do the job it was bought for – to support a rotary clothes drier. And fitting it in place was easy. However, I wish I had read the Customer Questions before buying it. Unlike just about every other lawn spike I've seen, this one sticks up above the surface of the lawn by at least 5cm (2in). Apart from being an eyesore, it's going to be a trip hazard, is likely to injure pets and children playing on the grass, and will no doubt make a mess of the lawnmower cutters too unless I'm very careful to avoid it (in which case, there'll be an island of long grass to disguise it; some comfort, I suppose). As I say, it's now in the ground, so it's too late to return it.

Now this little purchase is a huge leap forward. It is a very robust and sizeable beast and does a tremendous job of supporting rather a large clothes airer. The mechanism for holding any of a wide range of diameters in place is really nifty and tough. But the 5th star comes from its amazing screw device. Once it started to grip the upper soil the auger continued to screw deep deep into the substrate (it is quite long!) It turned so easily, with the plentifully long lever handle provided, that I presumed it was slipping its thread and was another good idea that doesn't actually work. But that was not at all the case. The effortless turning was accompanied by effortless piling and the thing was very quickly fully sunk up to the hilt and tightening up as its upper part pressed down on the soil.I'm going to buy several more (or many, just in case they stop making them) to last a lifetime of new locations.I would be happy for any advice however on how to ensure you are screwing in absolutely vertically.

I absolutely love this product, could not recommend enough!! We have recently moved house and the grass in our new garden is so soft, I couldn’t hang anything on the line without it practically falling over. This little device has been a lifesaver! I was sceptical it would work with my grass being so soft but it wedged itself right in, it’s absolutely solid so my washing line doesn’t move one bit, and it was so easy to do I did it myself in about two minutes. The delivery was super quick too. If you’re in doubt just buy this item!! It’s absolutely worth it!
