I have several very dry 3"-6" caliper logs that are already splitting and checked. This bit did nothing but bind up and get stuck in all of the logs I tried to split. From the end of the log to the middle of the logs along the splits it simply got stuck and had to be manually removed. Very disappointed.

it will only split small pieces which are soft/dry.Gets stuck in bigger logs.

This product is misrepresented as being easy to use when you watch the videos. This product ruined my drill because the splitter head got stuck in the piece of wood I was trying to split. My drill has a two part tightening sleeve to secure and tighten the bit. When the splitter head got stuck in the wood it spun my drill around and tightened the drill adjustment sleeves against each other. I can't get them apart so my drill is ruined. The bit sleeve that screws into the drill head was also tightened so tight it is not removable so I just ate the cost of this splitter bit because I can't get the bit sleeve off it in order to return it. Don't purchase one of these. They obviously are demonstrated by experts. You can get hurt using this splitter bit because it spins the piece of wood around and can hit you. It really jerked my hand and I almost got hit by the piece of wood. The splitter bit was also stuck in the wood and the only way I could get it loose was with a wedge and sledge hammer. A real loser product you want to avoid at all costs.

works well with an impact drill

I should know better, but I thought maybe I could split some unseasoned pine log rounds with this little device.I hooked up this bit to my roto hammer and attempted to split this pine log at the edge as per the instructions. The bit dug in very well into the pine log and the roto hammer spun around in my hand & smacked my thumb so hard, I wondered if I had broken my thumb.I supposed if you had half inch dried pallet wood this bit would work very well. But for real life logs, IMO, absolutely not.FYI. The construction of the bid is very solid and it fit my roto hammer just great.And for the record, I don't think I have ever given a one star to anything. I really respect sellers and I'm pro-business, but I found that this is an inadequate tool bit for what the advertise it for.PS: Thumb still hurts. And will have to find a way to split the log to get the tool bit out and return it.

I tried it with my impact drill on a 4" diameter piece of maple. It would not take off more than a small chunk. Then it became stuck in the wood, I reversed the drill, and the post came out. Then, I had to back the bit out with an adjustable wrench.Save your money and use an axe, hatchet or proven tool.

Do not use this on hardwood . I attempted to split some kindling off the edge of some oak and this thing almost took my arm and leg off. The hammer drill i was using spun violently as the drill splitter grabbed and got stuck . Very dangerous. Dont recommend this thing at all.

This drill performs as advertised. It makes splitting wood they way you want it a breeze, especially wood with numerous knots. I use alot of hardwoods for my pro smoker and now can split the wood to just the right size to to help maintain the steady temperature for the cook along with regulating the vents.
