A truly stunning book displaying an ambitious, high quality, pictorial narrative on a grand scale - could be his best book yet.
A truly stunning book. A grand and ambitious narrative realised in glorious high quality photographs that display the classic Joe Cornish 'signature' perspective on line, form and colour. Reproduction, layout and format is uniformly excellent, as is the textual commentary by Roly Smith, who has previous form having narrated the excellent Kinder Scout book some years ago. One of Mr Cornish's best books (he is rarely, if ever, less than excellent) in my opinion and one to rival some of the very best North American and antipodean landscape photography books by the likes of Rowell, Porter, Ketchum, Potton, and David Muench, as well as the very best currently plying their trade in the UK, such as John Beatty, Glyn Davies, Colin Prior, David Ward, Charlie Waite, and Paul Wakefield, If this is to be his coda to the UK landscape, I hope it is a very fitting pause only and not a full stop: I would love to see his interpretations of Ireland, the Alps, Iceland, the Himalayas, Patagonia, Norway, the Southern New Zealand Alps, and the national parks of the US.

A big book well produced and printed with fine informative essays
A big book well produced and printed with fine informative essays. I particularly enjoyed the photographic notes and had already noted the change in style as Joe has changed from film to digital back to smaller format digital. The earlier work both film and digital seems to me to be more considered and generally finer - I found this too with Jack Dykinga. Its not film v digital, it is adapting the photographer's approach to a different type of camera. I am still unconvinced of the merits of the merits of the smaller camera for landscape work. It can certainly deliver fine quality but something seems to me to be missing. Judged as a picture book of the British landscape this book is, however, outstanding and really good value so 5 stars.

Lovely pictures, poor printing
Joe Cornish takes wonderful pictures, but I was very disappointed by the quality of the printing in this book. The "cheapness" of the printing lost the magic which should have shone from the photos. As I have bought them as gifts I now wonder if it is worth buying this sort of book on line. I own another book with Joe Cornish pictures, which I bought in a shop therefore seeing it first, and the quality is excellent.

Nicely put together and enjoyable anecdotes and folklore to take you on the journey around Britain. My only thought was that the quality of some of the chosen photos was not of such a high standard as I was expecting from such a good photographer as JC. But still a good book and if its the only photo book of Britain you buy, you wont be disappointed.

Superb
Everything about this book exudes quality. The printing is excellent. The writing is uniformly informative and the photographs, shot across both film and digital with notes at the back, across the board are to the usual superlative standard of Joe Cornish. What I like the most about the book is that it contains more information about the landscape itself than might usually be found in a Joe Cornish book, and the writing is complemented wonderfully by the photographs. One of my favourite photo book purchases in recent times.

The beauty of the Britain country
NIce book and nice pictures. The print quality is at the level of the price paid... but not at the level of the camera used (which are hight resolution). The light and colors are beautiful.

Marvellous!
Great book for anyone who aspires to improve their Landscape technique. Full of inspiring images from all over Britain, this is a book you'll turn to again & again. A sumptuous tome which will appeal to anyone who likes walking in the UK, not just photographers. Recommended!
