Enjoyed the Third Person Perspective!!
Jacque lives in the small town of Coldspring, TX where there is not always a whole lot of excitement. When she learns that her neighbors are getting a foreign exchange student, she is immediately intrigued. She camps out by her window waiting for him to arrive, and is in for a surprise.Fane arrives at the house that is to be his home for the next year, and feels something different. He looks around and sees a girl staring at him from a window. As soon as he realizes what is going on, he cannot wait to meet her. Fane belongs to the Romanian pack of Canis lupus, and believes that the girl in the window is his true mate.As soon as Jacque lays eyes on the gorgeous guy that will be staying across the street, she starts to hear voices in her head. She thinks she is going crazy, but voices are not even the half of it, things get even crazier...This story is told in third person, which I found really refreshing. I am used to books in first person, but I found this different point of view very enjoyable. In addition to this point of view, the author tends to switch between focusing on Jacque and Fane. This was very interesting, because you were able to see one scene from both perspectives. Also, since Fane is Romanian, Loftis included a lot of Romanian words. Now I couldn't pronounce them, but I enjoyed seeing them nonetheless. This was a good start to what I hope will be a good series, way to go Loftis, a fellow Arkansan!!!

An easy and enjoyable read.
Whether you're a lover of the paranormal (like me) or just like a good romance, this is a series to try. I randomly decided to try this series because I love werewolves and it was nicely priced and was extremely pleased with it! They've really got everything...drama, romance, action, comedy...you name it. I really like how the author developed the characters...I truly feel like you get to know each and every main character and can relate to them. I also love how the author has the girls speak: yes it's slang and a little unconventional but that's how most kids today talk so it really makes them seem like your everyday teens. I did catch the occasional mistake (both grammatical and context) but because the story line is so good it didn't even matter to me. I am the type of reader that likes to reread my favorite books over and over again and I have read every book in this series (except the most recent because I haven't had it long) at least 3-4 times and am still not bored of them. If you don't get too hung up on the occasional error, this series really is a fun read...and they just keep getting better as you make your way through the series.

Nice Idea... Horrible Execution
Perhaps I shouldn't be writing a review so early in the novel, however, by Chapter 5, I am annoyed beyond compare.First of all, secrets are bared - first book, first chapter. Main character is a wolf. Though the author doesn't come out and say so, Jacque's the "mate" of the, (of course) gorgeous, sexie, "hottie" werewolf. Which would leave only one option as she thoroughly describes the mating ritual of werewolves - they mate with werewolves.Second, the writing is TERRIBLE. Dialogue - terrible. Narration - terrible. The fourth and fifth chapter are the same... I mean, it's a description of the same incident twice. I'm not sure if this was intentional. It seems as thought the author might have been trying to describe the scene from two points of view. But, she fails miserably as we get random first person accounts from both characters in both chapters. On that note, the transition from narration to inner dialogue or thoughts is NOT seamless.Ex: Chapter 5, "He appeared confused and cocked his head in an odd way, kind of like she had seen dogs do when you are talking to them. Oh, that's so gracious of me, comparing the Romanian to a dog. Jacque wished someone would just put her out of her misery."UGH - this is TERRIBLE stuff. The first sentence: who's "she"? I mean, we KNOW who "she" is but, when writing, one can't just start talking about "she" without clarification. Also, the author writes "you"; "you" who? Then, int he second sentence, the author moves right in to first person narration... and, then out again. If you're going to write a book in third person, stick to it. Otherwise... quotes are necessary!!!!!!This is NOT advanced creative writing skill - this is THIRD GRADE writing BASICS. And, frankly, I'm SHOCKED that this book is in print. Perhaps the story will make up for it as the other countless comments suggest. That remains to be seen.

When too funny gets too annoying
To be fair I must say that when I purchased this book I didn't know I was getting myself a VERY Young Adult story, I like my romances more spicy and realistic and I think they don't even kiss in this book; the romance and love is just in their 'I love yous'.Once said this: the storyline was not all bad but editing is poor (the book supposedly has three editors!!), the writting style is pretty lame, the characters lack depth and the story feels flat and way too unrealistic even if we're talking about werewolves here; but above it all, I can't for the life of me stand the dialogue!I love sarcasm and humor and a badass heorine but in this book it is just TOO MUCH. It makes imposible to focus on the gravity, intimacy or seriousness of the situations. It's totally overboard. The reactions of the 3 girls in this story to every happening is just ridiculous. The female protagonist and her two girlfriends are meant to be funny smartasses but instead they sound not just shockingly inmature but like 3 mouthy brats! Also, after something was explained to the reader in a previous page or chapter, characters kept retelling those same events word by word to another character so you get to read 2 times the same thing over and over!Silly of me I purchased together whith this one the second part of this series and in spite of what I've just said I decided to read it (it seemed as if the 2 girlfriends were not going to be in the second book so I thought maybe the second installment won't be that annoying and I had already paid for the book); it got worse. The events in book 2 are more "dramatic" than in the first one but the reactions and "jokes" are just as stupid if not even more. I kept skipping pages and pages of silly bantering and irritating dialogues just to get to the point of the story.I won't be reading any more of this series, that's for sure.
