Scorching hot, violent, dirty: Great!
Return to Wonderland is a scorching hot, dirty, violent, sick piece of work. In other words, I love it!Its main character, Calie is a sexy Goth hottie who the artists draw in various states of undress. The fact that her name is an anagram of Alice is about as subtle as the creators of this book can get. Imagine if you will, giving a storywriter and comic book artists the characters from Alice in Wonderland, and telling them to cut loose with every adolescent revenge, violence, and sexy girl fantasy they ever had. That's about what we have here. In this Wonderland, every single woman, villain or hero alike, is impossibly hot. Wow, is it fun to read! There is no explicit sex here, but the pages are definitely bathed in blood from horror-movie type over the top gore. The purposefully exploitative way the artists draw Calie and the other women in this book is just pure nirvana- he lingers over every G-string, and fetishizes the Alice in Wonderland clothing.Like most trade paperback collections of comic books, the covers are where the artists spend their most effort and it shows. Don't be put off by the lousy cover- it doesn't measure up to the quality of the covers inside.Perhaps my favorite example is the cover in which they riff on the Coppertone suntan ad where the puppy is pulling at the girl's swimsuit. Instead in this book, Calie is dressed in Victorian Alice in Wonderland dress (an impossibly short miniskirt version) with a horrifying Cheshire cat tearing at her skimpy clothing.Pure teen-boy fun here.If you're an adult, all of this may not appeal to you- but on the other hand- if you want just let your id run wild for a hundred pages of comic fun, it doesn't get much better than this.

Interesting Title for Mature Adult Readers
This is the book where you need to start your reading into Zenescope's Wonderland publications, as far as I can tell. It's a must-read if you're into fairytale/classic literature reinterpretations and you're okay with icky gory stuff and dark storylines. (If you paricularly like such things, don't hesitate and get a copy of this one!)The book is dark, there's blood and guts and disturbing people and ideas littering the pages. The artist/authors do a great job with this new interpretation of madness and childhood and consequences, bringing adult questions and attitudes with a dangerous edge (the less-pretty definition of madness here!) to the classic story. I absolutely loved the art, even when it got a bit gory for my taste, and the book was physically pleasing in colors, page formation, binding, etc. The arc of the story is well put-together and easily understood. This is definitely a series I'd recommend to any adult that I felt would be intersted in the contents, and I'm definitely planning on finishing the series and reading more Zenescope publications in the future.

Great Comic!
This is a fascinating take on the whole Alice in Wonderland mythos. The story revolves around the Liddle family, especially her daughter Calie, long after Alice returns from Wonderland. Alice is now insane and the effects of Wonderland are starting to spread until even Calie enters the bizarre world her mother once entered, and has to fight to find a way out.Essentially, take the original Alice in Wonderland and re-purpose it as a horror comic and you get the idea.True to Zenescope's other titles, the cover art is typically rather graphic, but overall the art is really good. I really held off on purchasing any of Zenescope's titles for so long because of these covers but the art is no more drastic than I've seen in other comics, so I assume they did that simply to draw attention. This book is a great introduction to the rest of Zenescope's Wonderland titles, and deserve to be on any comic lover's bookshelf. And Calie's reactions in Wonderland are refreshing to see as she's reacts the way most people would react if placed in such a situation, namely, 'WTF is going on?'An excellent addition to any comic-lover's collection. I only wish the Hardcover was still in print.

I love the modern takes on twisted fairly tales and children ...
I love the modern takes on twisted fairly tales and children books. Most of them were fairly sinister stories to begin with so the authors have some good reference material to go on, lol. These and the Grimm sets are simply great to have.

Good Read
Awesome twist on the Alice character with a very interesting story. If you have any interest in a darker version of Alice this is it.

Visually, as expected (and enjoyable :) ), but a genuinely nice take on the original tale imo.
Update: Turns out the included covers are intended to be like that - strange choice.Something about it gripped me though, will defo get the rest!I actually really enjoyed this, though I went in knowing what to expect visually, I personally liked the take on the tale too.I'm unsure if I received a bad copy though, as the cover reproductions included are an over washed-out sepia kind of thing, which is a real shame. Can't find any answers to this so far either.

Return to Wonderland.
Een spannend en prima verhaal, met uitstekende tekening van de Grimm Fairy Tales series. De uitgever is Zenescope en alle strips of comics hiervan zijn uitmuntend.
