Initial Experience Very Poor, Option Company Unresponsive, Great Performance on Device, Great Amazon Seller
I received the product earlier than expected (kudos for fast shipping!) and opened the box. To insert the SIM card, a Torx T6 screwdriver is required to remove the plate on the back. After a quick trip to the nearby big-box home improvement store, I bought and used a Husky-brand Torx T6 bit in attempt to remove the four screws. The first two were on extremely tight and started to cause damage to the bit, but I was able to get them out with a little pressure. The second two screws stripped and were unable to be removed, confirming that all screws were put on with Herculean strength. This made the device unusable, as I need to use a SIM card. Photos show a stripped screw and destroyed Torx T6 bit.To use the device, one must register on the Cloudgate Universe site. I did so, and then found that there was absolutely no mechanism to ask for assistance or report an issue. All that's on the Universe site is a registration page (which I can't do) and a bunch of documents and firmware.I logged out, went back to Option's main site, and went to their Contact page. I chose Technical Support. I put in a detailed message, and when I submitted the message, the page refreshed with no confirmation that the company received my inquiry. I have also not received a confirmation e-mail that my message was received.I hope to get a response, else I'll be working with Amazon to return this unusable product. "Global Phone Company," who sold this to me, is not a Google-able company, but seems to have a good track record on Amazon. The e-mail I received from them stated this was not a returnable product, but obviously, it ethically has to be if I can't finish the installation.I will update this review as Option responds to my effort to receive assistance.UPDATE #1: Global Phone Company returned my e-mail within 16 hours and will be sending me an RMA to replace the screws. I will continue to update this review.UPDATE #2: Global Phone Company returned the product to me within 8 days of me shipping it back to them with their RMA. They were able to take the back off of the device and supplied replacement screws and a screwdriver. Option never contacted me back, so I have no faith in the "parent" company of the device if I were to have problems. As for the performance of the device, it is -excellent- on both Verizon and T-Mobile. The original firmware was buggy (Ethernet kept dropping off requiring a power recycle) but when I updated to the latest firmware via Cloudgate Universe, it became stable and reliable.Summary: Great performance on Verizon and T-Mobile, unresponsive parent company, extremely poor shipped firmware, great Amazon seller. Bumped from 1 star to 4 stars.
