Excellent

This book restarted my quest to play a recorder very satisfactorily. It reminded me of the fingering of notes that I played many years ago, as well as introducing me to new ones. It is also helping me to relearn to read music. The classical tunes it introduces can be downloaded, for free, on its web site, so the tunes can be listened to, giving a valuable guide to how they should be played.

Quality tutor book definitely for adult new learners and return learners

Good section on music theory, a graduated introduction to fingerings, a vital explanation for tonguing of notes, gradual build up of skill set to more complex pieces. Using the classics is a great idea - I recognize so many pieces just from memory alone. A thoroughly good book and highly recommended. The only disappointment is the music download in mp3 format. It is worth noting that it is helpful for giving you some idea of the how the all tunes (from page 14 onwards) sound, especially if you are not familiar with some of them. Each tune has a short introduction (usually two bars, or slightly less if you start on an upbeat) followed by a something that sounds vaguely like a recorder playing the tune. The trouble is, the music is not actually a recorder, but a synthesizer playing sampled recorder. The total lack of modulation, expression and just about everything that makes the recorder a wonderful sounding instrument, is missing! The result is quite a mechanical delivery which is uninspiring to say the least. So minus a star for that as a recorder tuition soundtrack should at least be the instrument you are learning and not a cheap and very poor substitute.

Very easy to follow

Excellent book on learning the basics of the recorder. I bought a recorder after not having played since I was 10 years old. This is a fantastic refresher or for those learning from scratch. Highly recommended!

Easy Beginner Book

A really good book for a beginner whether adult or child. Plenty of well known classical’s in here and best of all is that the names of each note is written within the note on the stave’s to make it easier to recognise the notes.

A good book to learn recorder

Good - a step by step introduction to notes followed by practice pieces and clasdical tunes. Not so good - the book claims that the tunes can be heard on the website. If so, it is well hidden, since I could find any such music tracks - just losts of books for sale

Classics to play on recorder.

Disappointing. Classics obviously not suitable to play on a descant recorder!

Easy to follow

Exellent book for a beginner or a rusty player like me, easy to follow, quickly builds your skills to play fluently and an interesting range of tunes to play. A light scattering of music theory and notation and snippets to improve playing and knowledge. The music is presented clearly with fingering charts for the relevant notes, although a couple of tunes didn't have all the required notes.

Easy to understand.

Brilliant book. I used to play the recorder back in my school days. This book was great for a refresher and learning a few new notes very quickly. It would equally be great for a beginner.I didn't know a few of the song titles but when I started to play them recognised the tunes. This is a well written book. Highly recommended for the recorder player.

great starter for an adult

I bought this book for my aunty who is 90. She wanted to learn an instrument and found her son's recorder. This book is perfect for someone who is learning this instrument and has some basic knowledge of classical music.
