Love it
I had this book before and gave it to my daughter, but quickly realized that I missed it. I am really happy to have another copy.

Great Instruction Book
As I have jumped on the adult coloring bandwagon and now want to hone my colored pencil skills, I came across Cynthia Knox's book, "Colored Pencil Basics." This book blew me always with all the details and instructions she gives in step by step instruction throughout as she covers blending, burnishing, techniques, watercolor effects, color basics and much more. I am so glad I purchase this because I know I will learn even more from it due to how the book is laid out in simple to understand instruction and technique. I hightly recommend this to anyone delving deeper into coloring with colored pencils.

Great Guidance
I bought this book as a gift for my niece. I had just taken a colored pencil class and knew she would enjoy the medium.I looked at many of the instruction books for colored pencils and chose this one.It provides enough information about color theory and techniques to get the reader started quickly. After a few tries my niece was shading roses like a pro!It is the perfect book for someone who already draws and wants to test-drive the colored pencil medium.

Lovely Little Booklet
Very nice 32 page booklet, sized large enough (10.5" x 14") to view details of projects quite well. It gives good advice on choosing techniques and supplies, as well as tips on individual demonstration projects which are worked from reference photos. The realism is good and the paintings show an attention to color theory.

This is for my Business
I teach colored pencils and I wanted to see how she approaches the subject. She has a variety of demos that are fun to do. Our stiles are different, but we achieve the same results.A good book to learn from.

Would not reccomend for the begginner but a good book
Took only one star off since I had it recommended for a novice. The instructions skip over a few things a beginner would not know, but a good book regardless.

A good book for someone just starting out
The examples are simple , and easy for a beginner. Nice big simple book. I wish there were more detail, but it is a good place to start.

very nice
This book takes us into realistic drawings, with several different techniques. Any really good artist develops their own way of doing things. It is useful to see what other artists do, not that you'd copy everything, but you'd find your own way. This is a very useful book for that.

Uses PrismaColor pencils in the examples but others can be used
First thing to note is that the author uses PrismaColor pencils which are big in the USA but in Europe a lot of people use PolyChromos which are oil based and blend differently. That said if you use a colour selector to choose your pencils shades (i.e. a square cut into a sheet of card held over the colour!) then you can choose similar colours for all of the pictures. This is a large format book at over A4 in size but with only a few pages. The benefit to that is that each final picture is shown in high resolution and gives a very good indication of what an A3 version that you might produce can look like. The drawings are step by step with the intial transfer/tracing then being coloured with the base shades and then layered to create the final colours. I'd always like more inbetween steps but these steps are excellent to show the techniques of pencil layering. The simple tip of using a black grape colour to build up an almost black background is a thing that can be used over and over. The step by step drawings also produce good results - with one exception. The maple leaf did not scale well for me and without the original photograph it is hard to see the detail. A minor niggle for an otherwise excellent book. Please note it is not many pages but if you are specifically looking at improving your layering skills then it worked for me.

Honestly expected better than this.
I know this only cost £6 but still, it is literally thinner than a magazine with approx 30 plus pages. I expected something along the lines of the Colouring Bible but this......disappointed to say the least. I'm sure some of the information inside is pretty good but nothing you probably cannot find online for free. As a coloured pencil artist that is well known I really expected more from Cynthia Knox.

Superb book with full instruction and photograph to follow. I’ve started 3 of the examples and copied the authors techniques and I’ve learned a lot about blending and using colour pencils.

I have always been good at art from a young age but wanted to expand how I colour my work. I have always been commented as being too heavy handed but after working through this book and using the tips, my art work has improved significantly with colouring pencils. Amazing help and would buy from Linda Hardy again!
