Lots of cherry pitters supposedly work on olives, but half the time you'll be chasing olives and pits all over your kitchen and still will have to pit many by hand. Then the pitter will break. I grow olives and make table olives and need a good pitter and THIS IS THE ONLY ONE THAT WORKS WELL. It screws onto a standard top canning jar. It is solidly built. Put the olive in the slot stem side down, give the plunger a solid whack, and the pit goes into the jar and you have your empty olive. Repeat. Not so great for tiny olives which can get whacked down into the jar (you can hold them and prevent that, though), and if your olive wasn't aligned vertically sometimes the pit won't come all the way out. But it will be almost out and you can just birth it with your fingers. Also the biggest olives won't fit in the slot, but I never minded that because they fit in my mouth :) When I pit a lot of olives my palm gets sore from the whacking so I wear a glove with padding or a potholder. It would seem like the devices with feeders that hold a bunch of olives would be faster, but trust me, it doesn't work that way. You need to set up the olive in a vertical orientation to get the oblong pit straight out the stem end. I hate pitting olives but this thing gets it done, the picture represents about 10 minutes of work, you won't be sorry.

I had one of these years ago and somehow misplaced it in a move. I’ve tried several other tools, but none of them could live up to the expectations I had after using this one. So glad I found it!! (I paid about 3x more for this one than I did the first time I bought one, so I will be keeping better track of this one)

Loved this gadget. Works perfect. I’ve been hand washing it right after each use and letting it air dry. After about 6 uses it’s begun to rust. Unfortunately it’s rather cheap materials. I would suggest hand drying after washing and don’t leave it wet to air dry. Maybe rub it with some cooking oil to prolong its life as well. I really wish it was better materials considering the price tag.

This is by far the best cherry pitter! It is far less messy then the single pit handheld ones. I like the fact that I can see the pit fall into the mason jar. I recently pitted 15 pounds of cherries and each one came out clean and easy!
