and everything is good to go
When I received this product I was very unhappy.I have had the RF Explorer devices before, but from looking at the picture you think you are getting the case, a gel soft case for the handheld, and everything is good to go.. wrong.I received a case, no gel case, and the antennas that I received are bent and do not screw on straight. Everything works, however.. the advertising for this product was not accurate and I am concerned with the stability of the antennas over time. If I didn't need it right away, I would've sent it back.

this little thing is great for exploring the spectrum around you
this little thing is great for exploring the spectrum around you. The menu system is quite non-intuitive, so DO read the manual and look up any videos you can find on usage.Once you get the hang of using it, changing parameters quickly and accurately is very easy.Among other uses, this device quickly answered my questions about why & where NOAA weather radio was dropping off so quickly as I drove through various areas. Also showed how badly my office building damps HAM band radio transmissions.

Decent product, does not serve the purpose of being able to track the source of RF radiation; though I don't think it's really meant for that.

RF Explorer - 3G Combo: 4 stars, but item was returned
Overall: 4 stars. Good value on hardware but software options let me downHardware: 5 stars. Device is solid but not "industrial/commercial". Good value for the priceSoftware: 3 stars. Bundled software is basic, but functional. Real-time viewing with max/avg/etc as well as waterfall charts. The RF Explorer is about the size of a GameBoy or old PDA. Various models/options are available; you basically chose whichfrequencies you want to see and chose the combination of options that you want. The case is made of aluminum and doesn'tfeel at all cheap or flimsy. The on/off switch and buttons are "very mechanical"; you know you are operating them. The displayis legible in/outdoors and has a backlight. You get basic, useful, information on the screen but it seems like it's really intendedto be used with external software (more later). The menu layout is easy to use and quickly becomes intuitive. Fiddle with it fora few minutes and you no longer need the manual. While I'm giving the product 4 stars, I ultimately returned it because of the software. To be fair, the price point of the hardwareand bundled software is reasonable. There is, however, some basic functionality that I think the bundled software should havebut doesn't. Going beyond the bundled software for more/better visualization starts at $50 and goes up to $300. These are all3rd-party packages and there is a weird combination of features/price that seem geared toward a specific purpose unless youget the higher-end package. Since the other software can exceed the price of the base unit and dedicated visualization packagessuch as MatLab can be less expensive, the value starts to diminish. My intended purpose was for personal use primarily (although not only) for WiFi analysis in a crowded residential environment. Abasic before/after comparison is available as part of the waterfall chart, but not on the real-time display. To get this functionality(baseline, delta) requires the additional software. This one particular limitation, however, reduces the value to the point where Idecided to return it.
