I've used this laptop now about a year without problems. It is made in Japan. My prior excellent Vaio SVT13 survived multiple drops, even on tile, and provided fast, consistent performance for 7 years, and I hoped to find the same quality in this purchase. This laptop compared to it:PROs+ Very thin and light+ Larger screen in smaller bezel+ Seems very sturdy, though no drops yet+ Battery adequate for weight (~8 hours at 60% brightness and with general office/browsing use)+ Fast and responsive, rare lag or stuttering with office, web, streaming, and occasional audio processing work.+ Superb selection of ports compared to competition+ Backlit keyboardCONS- Larger battery would be worth extra weight- Speakers are tinny and weak, much worse than my prior Vaio, better ones would also be worth more weight- Trackpad is even smaller than on previous Vaio; not generally bothersome but occasionally so- Power adapter plug is sloppy in the port; on prior Vaio it was always completely solidSummary:If low weight (with normal screen size and decent battery) and port selection are most important to you, this is a winner. If you need good built-in speakers, very long battery life, large trackpad, or don't need anything but basic office/web functionality and want to save money, there are better options.

My previous laptop (HP Spectre) was giving me issues with the motherboard. So I started looking for a computer that would be reliable and hassle-free. Based on Sony's reputation for delivering quality, I chose a Vaio. I was in for a lot of surprises. The computer had problems from day one. One side of the screen would not dim. It would not hold a Wifi connection and would repeatedly disconnect. Then one day it just died a (within 1-1.5 months of use). I called Sony for support. I learnt then than Vaio is no longer with Sony and was a separate entity. I called and left a message for Vaio but did not get a response for 2 days. I called Amazon who were helpful and agreed to replace my computer with a new one.The new laptop already has issues. It does not connect with bluetooth from my iphone. It does not identify its Wifi too. It has not been the kind of experience I was hoping for.It has been slight more than 1 year now using the replacement computer. The screen of this computer is also beginning to have issues. It has weird shadows and lines on the screen in the background. The screen often flickers and I am afraid this machine is going to die too.How can this company's computers be so unreliable and prone to malfunction. I would never buy another Viao computer again....

Although I had never owned a Vaio laptop, through the years I've admired them for their perceived quality and excellent screens. This one does NOT disappoint! It 'feels' quality and the screen is beautiful. Add the 16GB RAM for enhanced performance thus making it QUICK. And the weight? You'll forget you're carrying it. It's VERY, VERY light. Finally, one negative: As another reviewer mentioned the 'electric plug' protrudes too far. Should be more integrated. Aside from that 'flaw', I highly recommend this awesome laptop.

Extremely disappointed that overall quality, not as good as my previous Sony Vaio Pro13 Red. Can see the surface of SX14 is not smooth with waves pattern when shine under the light. The build quality is also feel cheap......just not worth the amount I paid.

This laptop is equipped with NVMe SSD which is better than SATA III and M.2 SATA SSD.The build quality is amazing (Made in Japan).It is lighter than the previous S13 model!Highly recommended!
