Don;t bother
This book is little more than a sketchbook of the artists work with some information about his thought process for each piece. There is very little in the way of actual educational or drawing information.

Not a Drawing Book
Not what I expected. I thought this book would be about drawing. I think this book is about how the author comes up with ideas for characters. I just can't make myself read it as it seems to ramble along about nothing. I skimmed about 30% of the book hoping it would actually start. If you don't know how to already draw a very detailed character, then don't bother with this book. If you want to know how this author gets ideas, maybe this might help.

Great read! Really helpful and demonstrative in fleshing out the character design process!
I thoroughly enjoyed this book! It is, first and foremost, helpful, clear, concise and instructive in the processes of character design. This book demystifies the process quite nicely and helped me to start carving out a rough process for myself that I will now practice so I can become proficient at creating characters. Additionally, this process is applicable for any type of design you might attempt. I highly recommend this book. I like it so much, I ordered Kevin Crossley's other book: 101 Top Tips from Fantasy Painters.

Looking forward to the "next edition"
This seems to be the best character design book out there. Good examples, but not a great deal of variety. Very Sci-fi, not too cartoony. Great Photoshop technique instruction. Good design strategies. An example of a complete character design including thumbnails, construction and action model sheets, with turnarounds and character lineup would be welcome.

There's not a lot of good books on the subject
I studied animation and consider myself an intermediate character designer. There's not a lot of good books on the subject, and this one is the best I've found yet. Although I myself could push the examples a little bit further, there's a lot of good information inside. I guess a beginner could learn most of the trades here, and an intermediate can learn/remember a lot of good tips also.

Excellent read. It is fun, inspiring, and very creative.
Great ideas in this book. And the ideas are aplenty! Amazing illustrations as well. I found the demonstrations to have a very natural, and ssmooth progression from the beginnning of the book to its end. It did not overwhelm, or intimidate with advanced art too soon in the book like some books do. Another positive element is that ssevral styles are explored. Kudos to the author. Well done.

10/10 Would recommend to anyone interested in character design.
This is by far the most useful book that I have ever found for character design and I've bought quite a few. When reading it I could not put it down and found the points and exercises as well as the composition of the book to be one of the best I've ever read. If you're looking for some assistance in learning how to create characters and how to continually keep them fresh in your mind, this is the book for you.

Great Character Design book
There are so few Character Design books out there but this one is pretty good. There are a good random assortments of Fantasy characters and robots. Everything has a bit of a comic type illustration look, but there is some other varieties. There is a good deal of writing too so it's not all pictures, there is a good balance. It's about 200 pages of solid information. If theres a con it would be that the book smells like mothballs.
